MANAGER, ISLAMIC CENTERS & ICCF DIVISIONS
The North American Islamic Trust (NAIT) is a waqf, the historical
Islamic equivalent of an American trust or endowment, serving Muslims
in the United States and their institutions since 1973. NAIT is a
not-for-profit entity, a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)
(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. NAIT supports and provides services
to ISNA, MSA, their affiliates, and other Islamic centers and
institutions.
NAIT holds titles to mosques, Islamic centers, schools and other real
estate to safeguard and pool the assets of the American Muslim
community, develops financial vehicles and products that are compatible
with both the Shari’ah and the American law, publishes and distributes
credible Islamic literature, and facilitates and coordinates community
projects.
Islamic Centers Division:
Islamic Centers Division (ICD) manages Waqf program services of NAIT to
Islamic centers, mosques and schools. NAIT’s Waqf program for the
properties of Islamic centers, mosques and schools is based on NAIT
holding titles to these assets. NAIT holds titles of approximately 300
properties. NAIT safeguards these community assets, and ensures
conformity to the Islamic purpose(s) for which their founders
established them. NAIT does not administer these institutions or
interfere in their daily management, but is available to support and
advise them regarding their operation in conformity with the Shari’ah.
Islamic Centers Cooperative Fund:
Islamic Centers Cooperative Fund (ICCF) facilitates the financial
viability of Islamic centers, mosques and schools by pooling of their
financial resources (excess cash) in to its Islamic Centers Cooperative
Fund (ICCF). NAIT also extends limited interest free loans from the
ICCF to needy communities.
Purpose of Job:
The purpose of this job is to perform administrative/managerial
functions associated with the ICD and ICCF services, increase public
awareness and understanding of NAIT projects, programs, services and
policies, promote Islamic centers’ participation in Waqf system and
ICCF of NAIT and secure their financial support for NAIT services.
Duties and responsibilities include representing NAIT with Islamic
centers, masajid and schools; visiting communities in coordination with
their activities and events; facilitating their compliance with Shariah
and the American law; developing informational materials; and
responding to their requests for information. Two examples of measuring
performance will be the ICCF increase and the number of centers joining
the Waqf system. These duties and responsibilities are normal for this
job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other
duties will be required and assigned.
Qualifications:
The candidate shall have good interpersonal, leadership and
organizational skills, steeped in Muslim religious obligations and
practices, self-motivated to serve Muslims and Islam in the United
States, able to communicate credibility and integrity of his/her person
in mediation settings, meetings and over phone, skilled at building
positive community relationships, able to write effectively and
verbally articulate NAIT positions clearly, motivated to raise funds in
interpersonal settings; well disciplined; able to work under the
pressure of many priorities; proficient in word processing, spreadsheet
and video-presentation software (Microsoft); and demonstrate a thorough
understanding of American Muslim community and NAIT, its mission and
its historical relationships with ISNA, MSA, other national Muslim
organizations and masajid across the United States.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with basic legal framework for
real estate, and have reasonable financial skills. A Bachelors degree
and a legal status in the United States (Citizen, Green Card or work
visa holder) are mandatory. At least Five years of experience in a
Muslim community organization with progressively diverse and critical
responsibilities is required. This position requires periodic travel to
centers on weekends.
The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director, NAIT.
This position is at the NAIT head office in Burr Ridge, a southwestern
suburb of Chicago, adjacent to Interstate 55.
Salary Range: Based on skills and experience, between $50,000 and $75,000.
