MYANMAR RELIEF

After the devastation of Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, ISNA officials recently had the opportunity to present a check for $10,000 to Gawain Kripke of the international relief organization, Oxfam America, to help in the Myanmar aid relief effort.

Oxfam International works primarily with developing countries that are not able to give their own people basic aid necessities.  Within the last two years alone, areas such as China, Bangladesh, Peru, Myanmar, Darfur, Somalia, and Pakistan have all received humanitarian aid from Oxfam.

Mr. Kripke, Senior Policy Advisor for Oxfam America, expressed his enthusiasm to be working with ISNA and asked ISNA officials to return for a visit with Oxfam America's President, Raymond Offenheiser.

Oxfam is currently working to send aid to the disaster-struck areas in Myanmar where a cyclone struck on May 2, 2008, leaving more than 90,000 people dead and over 56,000 people missing.

Thanks to the generosity of various donors throughout the North American Muslim community, ISNA was able to make an initial donation of $10,000 for the Myanmar aid effort.  With more and more donations being received, ISNA is hoping to make many more substantial contributions to this humanitarian organization which uses the money to give aid, relief and comfort to helpless people worldwide.

We hope that you will continue your support.
